Fresh frozen potato specialities prepared with pure sunflower oil
Since January 2011, Aviko pre-cooks the entire range of fresh frozen potato specialities in pure sunflower oil. Pre-cooking in sunflower oil is a healthy and responsible choice. Accordingly, Aviko meets European directives for a lower consumption of saturated fats. Aviko was the first supplier in Europe to pre-cook the entire Foodservice range of fresh frozen potato specialities in 100% sustainable sunflower oil.
Sunflower oil is a high quality natural product that makes a valuable contribution to a healthy diet. Sunflower oil contains at least 88% monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids help to lower cholesterol levels in the blood and thus reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The total fat content after pre-cooking in sunflower oil is just as high as after pre-cooking with palm oil. The proportion of unsaturated fatty acids in sunflower oil, however, is much higher.
At first glance, the potato specialities that are pre-cooked in pure sunflower oil appear somewhat 'greasier' than usual. This is due to the high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids that ensure a very low freezing point. Sunflower oil remains fluid even at a temperature of -18 ˚C. The slightly oily film disappears completely after cooking. According to independent testers, the potato products cooked in sunflower oil look more natural and taste better than traditional fresh frozen specialities.
